Why do you lose hair when you lose weight?

This is not a myth. Telogen Effluvium - that’s what they call it. Now before you throw off your friends with this Harry Potter-ish term you just learned, here is what it means according to MedicalNewsToday.

Telogen effluvium is a form of temporary hair loss that can last up to 6 months due to calorie restriction or sudden weight loss.

So basically, if you're cutting down on calories, becoming bald is actually good? Hm... and what if it would take me a year of calorie deficit to lose my extra weight? Will there be enough hair left on my head? Does being healthy mean getting bald? I hope not.

Luckily, this is not the case. Healthline says,

Hair loss during or after weight loss can be caused by a number of factors, including nutrient deficiencies.

Thanks to that, you can lose the extra pounds and get to keep that beautiful head of yours. Just remember to stick with the process: aim to be healthy and the weight will follow (not the other way around).
