3 To-Do’s Before You Start Keto

If you’re reading this, maybe you’re considering jumping on the bandwagon. However, before you Keto your way into getting healthier, here are 3 easy preliminary steps you need to take so you can be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to take on the Keto journey.

1. Ready, set, green!

Contrary to what you may have heard, the main food of the ketogenic diet is green leafy vegetables. As it says in Medical News Today,

Vegetables form a large part of the ketogenic diet at 7 to 10 cups a day. The best vegetables for a keto diet include celery, spinach, and lettuce.

Vegetables contain fiber that increases your healthy gut bacteria which makes you feel fuller and fights off bad gut bacteria.

Plain and simple, eat your veggies.

2. Yellow on the meat

Watch your fat and meat intake. The daily diet plan is shown in terms of calories. Keto suggests getting your total daily calories from 80% fat. This is where most get lost. Listen closely (before you eat a whole lechon).

Once you have shifted to ketosis, your body is able to use fat. Now, once that kicks in, you’ve just gained access to your energy source that you never knew you had. Cleveland Clinic studies say that:

Each gram of carbohydrate or protein yields 4 calories/gram. Each gram of fat yields 9 calories.

With the higher efficiency of converting fats into energy (calories), you only ought to consume a moderate amount of fats. So how will you get full? Vegetables.

3. Red on carbs

Ask yourself. How much do you want this? What are you willing to give up? Do you love pizza or pasta? What about ice cream? Because in Keto or Low Carb diet, you limit your carb intake to 20g - 50g a day (can't believe it? wait until you hear OMAD). That would mean no desserts and no rice (not even half). Luckily, we have alternatives that are so good, it's almost a miracle.

There are a number of success stories about Keto and the common thing they have is right motivation that turned into a habit. Why do you want to start Keto? If it's for the right reason, then nothing can stop you from living an elegant and healthy life.
